Each month the challenge entries will be posted on Mostlydead.com’s social media pages, along with the Artists’ names and social media info. The winners will be decided via drawing, and poll each month and posted on our website.

For this month’s challenge, we are doing things a little different. We are assuming we will be getting more than 10 entries...(If not, we know about 5 or 6 people that will be more than happy to take ALL the prizes!!!)

We have quite a lineup of prizes this month:

We will also have plenty of Halloween and SFX items for the drawing. Everyone who enters the challenge will be entered in the drawing. Check back on this page for prize updates. We plan to have a lot of fun with this and give away a lot of cool stuff, so show us your makeup, and come hang out for some SFX camaraderie and the possibility to win some freebies!!! IT’S FINALLY OCTOBER!!!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

First and foremost we want to say: We hope you all have a Most DEADLY spooky season! Thank you all for being beloved friends, followers, customers and fellow Halloweenies! We couldn’t keep this going without you and we appreciate you all very much!!

Now, on with the show…

Since it is our most favoritist month of the year, this challenge is going to be not only epic and exciting, it’s also open and free and freaky as hell!!

This month we are all doing makeup and costumes galore, and this month’s challenge is open to them all.

As makeup artists and Halloween lovers, October can become very busy and hectic amongst all the fun, so to make this a bit easier, We’re giving you the option to pick your favorite makeup, costume, or character of the month. It could be something you were already planning on doing… Perhaps even something you’re doing for someone else, or are entering into another contest. (Just make it extra epic for our contest.) This could also be your Halloween costume itself, or your look for “Day of the Dead”. We are extending the usual deadline so you can include your Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos looks as well.

If you are not doing a bunch of makeup and costumes this month, (or if you are and still want one more... just to make sure you go right over the edge) here are 3 prompts- choose one:

1. Bringing back the dead: Choose a historical or legendary figure and recreate them as a ghost, zombie, vampire or other un-dead creature.

*Pro tip: Make sure to include iconic features to make your character recognizable.

2. Grimm Gone Wrong: Fairy tales tend to be a bit sick and twisted when you find the origin. Take one of your favorite fairy tale characters and twist it even further…

3. Not of this Earth: Are the aliens invading? Are they already here? More importantly...what do they LOOK like? Are they fashionable, rugged and raw, slimy or just your average Joe? Create an alien and give it a personality.

As always, our community is a supportive, judgment-free zone for artists of all levels to practice their craft.

Everyone has a chance to win. It doesn’t matter if you have been a makeup artist for years, just started yesterday, or are a once-a-year spook-up artist, you still have a fair chance to win a prize. Some prizes will be awarded by vote and some by chance, so everyone has an opportunity to win something!

Don't forget that you're required to include a brief artist story or explanation with your entry—we love hearing about the "why" and "how" behind your transformation. This month, tell us what inspired your look, what event or competition the makeup was for, and any fun or interesting stories you want to include (keep it PG).

Prosthetics are not required, but are allowed.
You are NOT required to make a full body costume, but including as much of your character's look as you can, or want to, will increase your chances of winning the poll, and some of the other prizes.

How it works:

Create an SFX/ Halloween look of your choice. (This is a makeup/prosthetic challenge, not a costume contest...no pull over the head masks...unless you are doing a full body paint)

Snap a clear photo or photos. NO more than 3, please (before/during shots are optional but we love to see them! (before/during shots won't be posted)
* Pro tip: If this is your Halloween or event costume, please remember to take some close up shots of your makeup, in good lighting, before it parties too hard. (We don’t want a bunch of party pics where we can’t see your makeup, or it’s already worn off.)
Post on your own page, tag us, and use #MostlydeadHalloween26
Email your photo(s) to social@mostlydead.com with your name, social media handle, and a brief description of your work, as per the above instructions.
If you used one of the above prompts, be sure to include which one.
Type (or copy/paste) in the email “I agree to the terms”. (See terms below)
Submit entries by midnight on the 4^th of November. (Or at least before the sun comes up the next day)
Winners will be chosen via live drawing (as detailed above) on Instagram
Popular votes will be chosen via Poll, and announced same day as drawing. Look out for poll/voting announcements on social media, so you can send your followers over.
Only one entry per contestant.

Winners will be chosen via drawing on Instagram Live (need not be present to win,). as well as posted publicly on our social media pages

NOTE: Some of you have been submitting the names and social media ID’s of your models and photographers. It’s great that you are crediting everyone involved, and we encourage you to do so on your social media pages, when you post the photos to social media. We always post the social media ID’s of the MUA so people can visit their page and see other credits there, but since this is a makeup contest for makeup artists and Halloweenies, we will only be announcing and tagging the names of the makeup artists. There should only be one MUA working on each piece, so there will be one name mentioned for each entry. Your models and photographers absolutely deserve credit for their work, but this is up to you to put on your page. Our announcements will only mention the makeup artist.
